Continuing Anchor’s investigation into the design potential of ceramic as a material, this collaboration with Grazia & Co. builds on the studio’s ongoing exploration of the ceramic surface and form. The ceramic surfaces and glazes have been designed and developed within the studio in Melbourne, Australia using a combination of traditional making techniques and contemporary design thinking.
The outdoor tables are the first in a series of furniture items that look to take full advantage of the hand cutting and glazing techniques the studio utilises. Each step of the production is undertaken by hand, the finished surface a combination of unique parts, rich with the subtle variations produced by this kind of intensive making process. The results of years of testing and refinement, the ceramic surfaces have refined textures and a distinct hand formed aesthetic offering a balance between colour, texture, durability and gloss level across the surface.
